School of Music Names New Director
MINNEAPOLIS/ST.PAUL—Dr. David Myers, currently professor in the School of Music at Georgia State University, Georgia, has been named director of the School of Music at the University of Minnesota. Myers’s appointment becomes effective September 29, 2008.
“Dr. Myers is an outstanding leader with broad administrative experience, both nationally and internationally. His visionary ideas about music education and the relationship between music, the arts, and society will greatly strengthen the School and enrich its relationship to our community, our nation, and the world,” said James A. Parente, Jr., interim dean of the university’s College of Liberal Arts.
Myers’s distinguished career brings a wide array of experiences to the School of Music. He holds a Ph.D. degree in music education from The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and a M.M. degree, also in music education, from the Eastman School of Music, The University of Rochester. 
Prior to his appointment at the University of Minnesota, Myers served as professor, founding director of the Center for Educational Partnerships in Music, doctoral program coordinator, and associate director in the School of Music at Georgia State University, where he was awarded both the junior and senior outstanding faculty awards from the College of Arts and Sciences.
