Advocate for Folwell Hall: Take a tour and learn more

The U is seeking funding in the 2008 legislative session to renovate the interior of this 100-year-old campus landmark and move it into the 21st century. The plans for Folwell are designed to support the most important thing we do: teach.

We invite you to come to campus to learn more about plans to renovate Folwell Hall. Tour Folwell itself and the recently renovated Jones Hall.

  • Associate Dean Mark Pharis will talk about renovation plans, which include significant upgrades of the building's technological capacity to support teaching and learning
  • See the Jones Hall Language Center
  • Tour Folwell Hall and have some light refreshments in the Weiss Library
  • Learn how you can advocate for Folwell Hall with the legislature

This event is free and open to the public, but please RSVP to Erica Giorgi at giorg003@umn.edu or 612-625-8837 with your name and the number in your party by January 23 at so we can plan for the appropriate amount of refreshments.

Your efforts to advocate for Folwell will make a difference. If you are not able to come for this special event, we encourage you to:

  • See what the students are saying about Folwell Hall. Two student-produced videos were posted to YouTube. (Additional videos are planned.)
  • Host or attend a legislative district meeting sponsored and organized by the U of M's Legislative Network. All you need to do is help find a location to hold the meeting (in your home or a community location) and be available to greet guests. The Legislative Network folks take care of the rest. To host a meeting, contact Wokie Freeman (612-626-1785).
  • Attend the Legislative Network's Legislative Briefing and Reception on Wed., Jan. 23, 5:30-8:00 p.m., at the McNamara Alumni Center. Get an insider’s preview of the University of Minnesota’s 2008 capital request. Enjoy a light dinner buffet and learn what you can do to support the U. RSVP by January 17.
  • Write to Governor Pawlenty and your legislators. Visit http://ga4.org/campaign/folwell to send the Governor an e-mail and to get information on Folwell.
