CLA Alumni Society Event
Join us at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum!
Come to the University of Minnesota's Landscape Arboretum on Sunday, October 7, 2007 for:
- free admission to the Arboretum—just mention that you are attending the CLA Alumni Society outing;
- exciting Arboretum exhibits, including "Harvest Creations," the "Applehouse," the "Andersen Horticultural Library Book Sale," “Carl Linnaeus, the Swedish Naturalist:
a 300th Birthday Celebration" - light refreshments in the Oswald Visitors Center MacMillan Auditorium;
- the opportunity to attend a recording of the Access Minnesota public affairs radio program; and,
- a lovely fall afternoon in a breathtaking setting.
Event Details
Event date/time: Sunday, October 7, 2007, noon to 3:00 p.m. Drawing for a U of M Bookstore prize at 2:00 p.m. Must be present to win.
Access Minnesota recording: 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.
Cost: Free. When guests arrive they should mention to the gate attendant that they are with the “U of M CLA Alumni Society Outing."

Parking: Free. Guests may want to arrive early to ensure optimal parking.
Suggested Attire: Casual. A light jacket and comfortable walking shoes are suggested for exploring the sprawling natural wonder of the Arboretum.

- “Purple” Fans - The Minnesota Vikings have a BYE on their schedule on October 15.
- Bicycles are welcome on the Arboretum’s scenic 3-Mile Drive.
- Free wheelchair use can be arranged at the Oswald Visitor Center lobby desk.

Access Minnesota, a public affairs radio program about issues affecting Minnesotans, is created, co-sponsored, and produced by the CLA Alumni Society, KUOM AM 770 Radio K, and the Minnesota Broadcasters Association. Access Minnesota airs on radio stations across Minnesota each week. Program guests have included state legislators, business leaders, University President Bob Bruininks, CLA Dean Steven Rosenstone, Intercollegiate Athletics Director Joel Maturi, and various CLA and University professors such as Tim Kehoe, Karal Ann Marling, and V.V. Chari.
This session features Patrick Nunnally, coordinator of the Mississippi River Life Program at the Institute on the Environment. He is a teacher, consultant, and historian whose work focuses on interpretation and planning for rivers, trails, and scenic byways and the adjacent historic communities.
He is currently teaching a course via CLA's Urban Studies Program and the Institute for Advanced Study—"The River, the Bridge, the Community: Beyond the Headlines of the I-35W Bridge Collapse". His class was recently featured in an article in the Star Tribune and is receiving rave reviews of students.
