Alma Matters Privacy, Mission, and Tracking Information
This policy outlines how the College of Liberal Arts and the University collects and uses information about recipients of Alma Matters, a periodic e-mail newsletter for alumni of the College of Liberal Arts, University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus. This policy is consistent with University Board of Regents approved online privacy, data protection, and web publishing policies.
Alma Matters Mission
Alma Matters is a free periodic e-mail newsletter for alumni of the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota and is produced by the college’s Office of External Relations. It is designed to help alumni stay connected to the college.
Tracking Information
To better understand reader interest and behavior, the University of Minnesota tracks:
- number of Alma Matters e-mails opened
- number of Alma Matters e-mails deleted before being opened
- number of readers who choose to visit the Alma Matters website
- general reader statistics including how many clicks each item in Alma Matters receives
- reader interest trends over time
- recipients who do not open Alma Matters for an extended period. Periodically, these people will be asked to reaffirm their subscription in order to maintain a subscriber base of interested readers.
The College and the University do not otherwise track individually identifiable habits, but rather general trends and use. This information is stored only as a log file for review to improve the value of Alma Matters for its readers.

The Alma Matters website includes current and archived issues of Alma Matters.
