College of Liberal Arts Facilities Resources

Maintenance and Repair

Facilities Management is responsible for maintenance and repair of campus buildings. Your "first call" for these services should be to your zone manager. You should expect immediate attention to your requests; if not, contact Scott Elton in the Office of Planning and Initiatives for assistance.

Remodeling Projects

Please inform the College Planning Office (elton003@umn.edu) about any remodeling project, large or small. Your zone office, working with FM construction, can handle many small projects. Larger projects may need professional design services.

Also, read the College of Liberal Arts remodeling project guide for tips and guidelines for starting and completing your projects.

PLEASE NOTE: The College requires consultation on any project where partial college funding is sought. In such cases, firm estimates are needed before any work or funding can be approved. If estimates reach $100,000 or more, Regent's approval is also required; this normally takes at least two months before any work can begin.

Capital Requests

Major building renovations and new buildings are incorporated into Central Administration's six-year planning process, with major input from colleges on their priorities.

Space Planning

The College of Liberal Arts' Planning Office (elton003@umn.edu) is also available to assist you with space planning to accommodate program needs. While there is almost no additional space available in either East or West Bank CLA buildings, we can consult with you about better use of currently assigned space.

Classrooms

The Office of Classroom Management is charged with maintenance and upgrading of centrally-scheduled classrooms, and works closely with the Scheduling Office to accommodate the scheduling needs of departments. Please contact Scott Elton if you need further assistance or have special needs.
