Open Staff Positions
As stated in the FY08 Budget Letter, beginning this month the funds freed up from open printed budget staff positions in the units will revert back to the college while positions remain open. In other words, we will be handling savings from open staff positions like we handle open faculty positions. Units will continue to work with CLA HR to fill those positions both on a temporary and a longer-term basis.

EFS – Service Teams Q&A:
The following is the sixth in a series of Q & A’s that the CLA Project Team will address as part of its regular communications concerning the Enterprise Financial System through CLA NOW.
1) Is a chart of the six teams with member’s names attached to the roles available yet? Have the people in those roles been predetermined?
Individual members on the respective service teams have not been fully determined. CLA Fiscal Administration has a number of searches underway and will be having individual conversations with departments and CLA HR in October to discuss how their existing accounting staff fit into the service team model. Current regional accountants are likely to be on teams with units they currently serve, with the exception of regional accountants who serve units that will be located on two different teams.
2) How will current fiscal vacancies be filled?
CLA is currently searching to fill the open Principal Accountant positions. While we are meeting with units and determining where staff will be assigned, we will post and fill other positions as needed to maintain continuity of service.
A requisition (#150594) has been posted to hire the remaining principal accountants that will serve as CLA Financial Service Team leads. The college will look first to CLA staff who meet the listed qualifications before considering candidates external to CLA. A search committee is being formed and is expected to begin reviewing applications within the next week or so. Please contact Peggy Buckley (mab@umn.edu/6-9812) if you have questions about the position.
3) Is it possible to pick the service team I want to be on?
For the time being, service team staff will not be able to switch teams. Chairs and administrators have been told over the past several months that in order to minimize the amount of change occurring at one time, the accountant from the service team assigned to their unit would be their existing accountant (with limited exceptions). We will establish a process for moving between service teams post-implementation.
4) Will service teams be expected to have expertise in departmental designated duties; i.e., travel, employee expense reimbursements, ECARs, etc.?
Service teams will not be expected to have expertise in the processes that will be handled by departments (e.g., purchasing goods and standard services, travel processing). To provide consistency in service across departments, expertise instead should be shared among staff performing non-service team duties
5) Which teams have significant grant activity?
Significant – West Bank 1 and East Bank1
Average– West Bank3 and East Bank 3
Low – West Bank 2 and East Bank 2
For future questions please send an email to claefs@umn.edu. The questions that you submit will be reviewed by a team member and a response will be sent.
If you missed the breeze presentations, they are available on the EFS website for you to view at your convenience. The website also contains a large amount of information about the EFS project.
