College of Liberal Arts Staff Appreciation Day! Wednesday, December 6, 2006

Gordon Legge (psychology) received funding from NIH, "Development of Digital Sign Systems for Indoor Wayfinding.
Richard Leppert (cultural studies and comparative literature) has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the American Council of Learned Societies.
Michael Molasky (Asian languages and literatures) was awarded the Suntory Prize for Arts and Letters for his book, "Sengo Nihon no jazu bunka: eiga, bungaku, angora," (The Jazz Culture of Postwar Japan: Film, Literature, the Underground) published in July 2005 by "Seidosha" in Tokyo. The Suntory Prize is among the most prestigious awards for academic and critical studies written in Japanese. Molasky is the first English-speaking scholar to receive this award for work in the arts and humanities.

The ceremony includes music performed by the U of M Brass Choir and will begin with a faculty procession leading the graduates into NMA and conclude with the presentation of degree candidates. University of Graz Faculty Exchange
The College of Liberal Arts welcomes applications from CLA faculty interested in teaching at the Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz in either fall or spring semester in academic year 2007–2008 or 2008–2009. CLA faculty who participate in the program will receive their regular compensation from CLA. And one participating CLA faculty member each year will receive an additional stipend in the EURO equivalent of $10,000 from Graz to defray the cost of living abroad. Digital Content Library
The Digital Content Library (DCL) is a combined resource of the College of Liberal Arts and the College of Design. Together, there are over 100,000 learning objects from many different disciplines in image, video and audio formats. These objects come from a variety of sources. Access to the online collections is available to all U of M faculty, staff and students. The collections are password protected because of copyright considerations. U of M Disabled Student Cultural Center: Looking for Writers
The University of Minnesota Disabled Student Cultural Center (DSCC) is looking for writers (students or staff) for its monthly newsletter. The newsletter features news, commentary, fiction works, games, and comics on issues related to disabilities. Submissions of any sort are welcome. University Symposium Awards
The Institute for Advanced Study and the Office for the Vice President for Research invite proposals for collaborative interdisciplinary research projects on the topic of "Time," the subject of the University Symposium for the two-year period beginning in the fall of 2006.
