Faculty Recruitment and Hiring
Citizenship, Residency and Visa Requirements
The College of Liberal Arts’ commitment to excellence in recruitment also extends to the hiring of foreign nationals for tenure-track and tenured positions. As an international institution, the University of Minnesota is enhanced by its many students, faculty, and staff who reflect a wide variety of national origins. Consistent with University policy, no individual may be denied opportunity, including employment opportunity, at the University of Minnesota because of birthplace, ancestry, or cultural or linguistic characteristics common to a specific ethnic group or national origin.
Employment of anyone who is not a United States citizen or permanent resident requires particular care. If there is a likelihood that a search may result in the hiring of a foreign national, please contact the Office of International Student and Scholar Services for assistance with work-eligibility issues as early in the search process as possible, and promptly notify the CLA Faculty Office. The College of Liberal Arts has limited funds available to support visa- and immigration-related expenses of foreign nationals hired into tenure-track and tenured positions.
